Take a Class

No matter how much riding experience you have, taking a motorcycle class can help you freshen up on your skills. There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes that can improve your riding style. This will be a great refresher course for you that will help you have a successful first ride of the spring!

Gear Check

After taking your bike out of storage, you probably de-winterized it so it’s good to go. Now it’s time to inspect the rest of your gear! Make sure your helmet is still in good condition. In general, it’s good practice to replace your helmet every three to five years. Check your riding boots and gloves and other motorcycle gear to ensure it’s up to code and ready to go.

Warm Up

The motorcycle class will be a great way to warm up, but your bike needs to warm up too! Machines can develop snags when left idle for an extended period of time. Before you hit the road, take your bike out for a five to ten minute drive to see if it’s running smoothly. Pay attention to any strange noises. If you find any problems, take your vehicle to a professional and hold off on riding it.

Stay Visible and Alert

Over the winter, the amount of motorcycles on the road diminished. Some motorists may have forgotten about bikers and how to safely drive around them. There are also plenty of distracted drivers on the road. It’s important for you to wear bright clothes when you ride your motorcycle this spring. You can also add reflective strips to your bike to make sure it’s visible during foggy conditions.

Changing weather is a distinct part of the spring season. This means you need to be prepared for a wide variety of conditions. Be ready for dry or wet roads. It’s important to stay vigilant so you can adapt in the moment to changing conditions.

We hope these tips help you to have a safe and fun riding experience this spring. If you want any more tips or you’re looking to buy a new bike, reach out to Lawton Motorsports!
